Marvellous
Malteser Slice
Does anyone else just immediately think of a garden centre cafe or some kind of school bake sale when you think about tray bakes? Malteser slices in particular. Wow Caroline, that was a riveting start to the recipe.
This recipe is absolutely foolproof. It's so easy and pretty much impossible to get it wrong and, as an added bonus, it's great for anger management and stress relief because you get to whack some biscuits with a rolling pin- the best part. The only annoying thing is that you have to wait a little bit for them to chill in the fridge, but do not worry my friends because I have a way to help deal with this pain. Basically, you slyly end up leaving some of the mixture in the bowl by "accident" and you can make your way through that while you wait. And the best part is that these calories don't actually count. They are like airport calories or food after a night out calories. Science. And who doesnt like a buttery biscuit base?
WARNING these are super sweet but ridiculously addictive, hence I had to give most of them away to friends immediately to stop myself from eating the whole lot. Also, look at me trying to be all fancy and use the word 'hence'.

INGREDIENTS
200g BUTTER
200g MILK CHOCOLATE
4 TBSP GOLDEN SYRUP
PINCH OF SALT
270G PLAIN DIGESTIVE BISCUITS
200G MALTESERS
150G MILK CHOCOLATE FOR TOPPING
MAKES 12
-
Melt together the butter, chocolate and golden syrup. It is easiest to melt it in a bowl over a pan of boiling water but you can always just pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds and then another 20 seconds or so. Make sure you take it out and check that it isn't burning. Then add a pinch of salt.
-
Now for the fun part. Shove your digestive biscuits into a zip-lock bag and smash them into smithereens (was expecting a red wiggly line under that but smithereens is an actual word- I just googled). I quite like having a few chunks as well as small pieces but just whatever ya fancy.
-
Pour the crushed digestives into the yummy, melted buttery, golden syrupy goodness and mix. Then stir in the maltesers.
-
Line a tin (about 25cm by 25cm but it doesn't matter too much) with foil and pour in the chocolate biscuit mix. Leave it to chill in the fridge for 30 minutes while you lick the bowl clean.
-
Melt your extra 150g of chocolate and pour it over the biscuit base and leave it to chill in the fridge for about another 30-45 minutes.
-
Remove from the fridge and cut into 12 squares. ENJOY! xx
